A Life Without Sandy

Australia - April 2008

I had spent a week in Florida with Rick and Rose, and it went pretty well. I thought it might do me some good if I went away for a longer time. I decided to spend the month of April 2008 in Australia. In one of my conversations with David Weiner, I told him that I was thinking of visiting Australia for a month. He invited me to stay with them. I repeated that I was planning to stay a month, and he repeated that I should stay in his house. So, I did.

The arrangenment was very nice. I had a key to the Weiner's house, and I could come and go as I pleased. Amy was out of the house, and David and Helen left early in the morning, so I got my own breakfast, went to a gym in which I had a temporary membership, and then spent the day wandering. The three of us had dinner and spent the evenings together.

One day, about 2 weeks after I arrived, I went into a market that Sandy and I had visited in 2001.The store had been completely modernized and re-organized. As I stood looking at it, I became aware that my hand had slipped to my belt to get the camera to take a picture to show Sandy the changes. Depression hit me and I stumbled out to the car and sat there for about 20 minutes. I couldn't wait to get home, so I made my apologies to David and Helen and re-booked my flight. I left as soon as I could, cutting my visit short by a week.
