A Life Without Sandy

Friends

All of our friends came to Sandy's funeral, and all sent condolences and expressed regret, but with one exception, none of them ever contacted me. The one exception was Moya Krohn, who invited me to her house for dinner, cocktails, conversation, and included me when she and Mike went to concerts, plays, and more. She made sure that I was not alone, and I am very grateful to her. She and Mike moved to Florida, where I visited them twice, but gradually, we lost contact.

With Rose Hofferbert

The Hofferberts - Rick and Rose - had lived next door to us for some time, but I didn't discover them until I met Rick at the mailboxes in January 2008. Rick and I became very close friends. We spent a great deal of time together, with a weekly lunch at the Park Diner, talking politics - we're both conservatives - working on his family tree website, and laughing. Rick was a real laugher, a guffaw-er. His laugh was loud and infectuous, and he invited people to join in. He was also the smarted person I have ever knoiwn. He was a retired Binghamton University political science professor, so when we had frequent political discussions, I knew that the history and precedents he cited were accurate.
